Cocaine continues to be an area of concern for the state of Arkansas. Officials believe that coacaine is a bigger problem than methamphetamine because of the crime and violence that cocaine brings along with it.
According to reports from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, there are 173,000 residents in Arkansas that have used drugs in the last thirty days. 46,000 people in Arkansas have abused cocaine in the last year.
Arkansas children are also abusing cocaine. Over 2% of 8th graders have used cocaine at least once in their lifetime.
Studies have shown that one of the biggest allures of cocaine is that people relate it to partying. Often times, addicts will justify their use because they want to remain in a "party" mood. However, one of the biggest drawbacks of cocaine is the intense craving users feel after the initial high has worn off (the initial high can last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour). This craving drives addicts to go on binges, often times for days.
Most cocaine addicts start out abusing cocaine at parties and with friends, but as time passes, they begin to use the drug by themselves, often times resorting to theft in order to obtain money for the drug.

Symptoms of a Cocaine Addiction
Cocaine is a drug that tends to have very obvious side effects. For those people who are abusing cocaine they most often display a large amount of hyperactivity (fast talking, fast movements, "bouncy", non sequitor speach, eyes darting around the room).
Additionally, long term cocaine abusers may have a substantial weight loss, their skin can become gray in color and they tend to keep strange sleeping schedules, like sleeping during the day and awake all night. Or sleeping for short amounts of time and then awake for long periods of time.
Families of cocaine addicts often notice that valuables go missing. This is common among addicts. In order to fund their cocaine addiction they resort to stealing. Items that are of particular interest to a person suffering from a cocaine addiction are; jewelry, money, antiques, tools, electronics, expensive clothes, blank checks or credit cards. |

Cocaine Treatment Centers in AR
During 2006 there were 13,692 admissions to drug and alcohol treatment centers in Arkansas. That is the lowest amount of peple seeking help in three years. Cocaine addicts accounted for 2,182 of those people seeking help. Because of the low number of admissions into drug rehab there are 67,000 Arkansas residents that reported they need help but did not recieve any.
There are several different types of cocaine rehabs in Arkansas. The most important thing to remember when choosing a rehab for cocaine addiction, is the success rate. There are some rehabs with a success rate as low as 10%, while others have a success rate as high as 60 or 70%.
Another important factor to consider when choosing a rehabilitation facility is to find out how long the program is. Traditionally, the longer the program, the higher chance a person has to staying clean from cocaine.
No matter what type of facility you and your family chooses, always remember that the only wrong thing to do is nothing at all. Cocaine addiction has the ability to create an addict after the first use. While the physical withdrawal symptoms might be less than those of heroin, cocaine addiction does present extreme depression and anxiety among users who cannot get the drug. This is most successfully handled by trained counselors in rehabilitation centers.
