As of April 16, 2007, there were 15 drug courts either implemented or being implemented in the state of Colorado. Over 50% of the Federally-sentenced inmates are incarcerated because of cocaine related crimes. According to the Colorado Department of Corections, approximately 78% of prisoners were "substance abusers".

Hospitals in Colorado have seen an increase in ER visits for cocaine-related problems. In 2006 there were 4,358 residents in Colorado that went to the ER due to complications with cocaine.

There is a steady flow of cocaine coming into the Colorado area. Powder and crack cocaine is readily available in larger cities and can generally be purchased on the street. Because Colorado is located so closely to the East coast, drug trafficking organizations use Colorado as a transshipment state for cocaine. Law enforcement has noticed that the amount of cocaine available to residents in Colorado has started to increase.

There are 123,000 Colorado residents that have reported an illegal drug dependence or abuse problem within the last year, that is a 37,000-person increase from the year before.

Colorado children aged 12-17 have begun to abuse cocaine in increasing amounts as well. 8,000 children in the state of Colorado have abused cocaine at least once in their lifetime.

Cocaine Addiction in Colorado

There are several signs that someone is abusing cocaine. One of the easiest ways to spot that a person has a cocaine abuse is by their appearance. Cocaine addiction will begin to destroy or change the way a person appears to others. They may develop some acne. Often times their nose will run, or they will be sniffling. They often times lose weight and have poor eating habits. In general, their hygiene habits begin to degrade.

Another easy way to tell if a person is abusing cocaine is by noticing some of their activities or behaviors. They may never have any money, despite being given some just the other day. Some paraphernialia that may be in the vicinity of a cocaine addicts are as follows: needles, straws, baggies with white residue, spoons, needles, belts with blood on them, cards (ID cards or credit cards) with white residue and razors. These are all things that can be used in conjunction with cocaine.
