High school children are abusing cociane at larmaing levels in the state of South Carolina. 9th graders report that 11.1% of them have abused ccoaine at least once in their life. Even more surprising is the amount of 12th graders that abuse cocaine. 13.5% of 12th graders have abused cocaine at least once in their life.
Interestingly enough, cocaine was the most seized drug in the state of South Carolina last year, but it was also the only illicit drug showing a decline in seizures compared to the previous year. The federal government seized 153.5 kilograms of cocaine in 2006. 39.9% of Federally sentenced defendants in South Carolina committed a drug offense. Approximately 71.2% of these drug offenses involved cocaine.
In 2006 there were 29,150 people seeking treatment for a drug and/or alcohol addiction. 4,514 of those seeking help in the state of South Carolina were addicted to cocaine. One disappointing trend in the state of South Carolina is the amount of people not receiving help for addiction. Recent reports show that 95,000 South Carolina residents reported needing but not receiving help for a substance abuse problem. There are several signs that someone is abusing cocaine. When a person begins to use cocaine they will exibit the following:
